Don’t miss out on a drive in the new Holden Cruze Hatch. One of the nicest looking Hatchbacks around, the Cruze Sri-V model has heated leather front seats, sensor key technology, big sound audio with 10GB hard drive, rear parking sensors, touch-screen satellite navigation, voice recognition and very hot looks. Now with even more powertrain options, you can choose from the super smooth 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine, the 1.8 litre petrol engine with spirited performance, or the advanced 1.4 litre intelligent Turbo induction (iTi) petrol engine that provides superior performance and magnificent fuel economy.
Holden has gone to great lengths to keep the Holden Cruze at the front with safety technologies. That is why a five-star ANCAP safety rating has been given to the fully kitted out Holden Cruze Hatch, where you’ll find six airbags, ESC and a host of other active and passive safety features. One of the key Cruze features is an extremely strong unibody design, which incorporates full-length frame rails and a passenger safety cell into a single, welded unit. Front and rear crumple zones collapse in a controlled manner to help absorb crash energy, while effective load paths ensure optimum protection in the event of a collision from virtually any direction. ESC, ABS, and BA are standard features on all models.
Three models are available for the Cruze Hatch, and they start with the nice CD Hatch which boasts comfortable cloth seating, electric windows and cruise control as standard. It’s nice to have the cruise control function, as the car is a willing performer and easily capable of sneaking into the “Sorry Officer” zone. Detailing inside the Holden Cruze CD Hatch is nice and smart, with the chrome interior door handles looking very classy. Lots of excellent storage compartments make the CD Hatch very practical to live with, and the centre rear arm rest adds to travel comfort. As with most good hatchbacks, the Holden Cruze swallows a lot of luggage, particularly with the 60:40 split folding rear seats. Inside the console at the front is a useful auxiliary power socket for powering additional electronic items like a lap top or gaming machine. A refreshing cool drink can be enjoyed leisurely on the run with four cup holders available throughout the Cruze Hatch cabin. Holden have been around a good long time, and they understand Australia’s variable climate and the need for a good heat/cooling system for cabin occupants. Its simple functions are handy to both front seat occupants. A Graphic Information Display (GID) includes; audio information, air conditioning information, outside temperature, time and date and vehicle personalisation settings.
What sets the Holden Cruze SRi and the SRi-V Hatch apart from the CD model is some of the more flashy interior features and materials. However, Holden have also provided these two models with the taut Watts link performance suspension. The Holden Cruze CD Hatch performs very well, and offers sharp handling that softens road bumps with commendable ease. With the CD Hatch you also get the option of all three of the engines available to the Cruze range. Step into the SRi and SRi-V, and the steering response is excellent. With the Watts link performance suspension you’ll find that the road holding is right up to the task for driving enthusiasts who like to push the limits that much harder.
In my book, I’d probably settle for the Holden Cruze CD Hatch and the very efficient 2.0-litre Diesel engine (360 Nm at 1750 rpm) linked to the six-speed auto. However, a sportier look and drive do belong to the SRi and SRi-V versions. And I have to say that the look of the fully kitted out Holden Cruze SRi-V is stunning, inside and out.
