The T5 and T5 R-Design models come as front-wheel driven sedans that have 177 kW of power at their disposal. The lusty 320 Nm of torque is available all the way from 1800 to 5000 rpm. You can imagine how nice this car moves along the highway. Effortless cruising and punchy passing ability create a drive that is controlled and powerful. The engine is always ready to perform, and is a superbly robust four-cylinder unit that is linked to a slick six-speed Powershift transmission. You can expect a return of around 8.6 litres/100 km fuel consumption.

Hop into the premium S60 AWD or S60 R-Design AWD models and you find that the 3.0-litre has loads of throbbing six-cylinder turbo power on tap. The instant response when you plant the right foot to the floor is sensational. A full force of 224 kW can be found very quickly, and a massive 440 Nm of torque is on hand between 2100 and 4200 rpm. What this equates to is one heck of a nice drive. The very plush sedan can make the 0-100 km/h dash in just 6.5 seconds, and this is performed through a sweet shifting six-speed Geartronic transmission.

Now, Volvo have very wisely equipped the Volvo S60 with the D5 engine. Diesel fuel comes a lot cheaper than the petrol, and you’ll find that the S60 tramps along nicely with the state-of-the-art diesel technology under the hood. You’ll find the 151 kW is reached at 4000 rpm, but on the way you’ll be enjoying a full rush of 420 Nm of torque between 1500 to 3250 rpm if you plant it. This sort of grunt sees long journey’s get eaten up swiftly, and in the S60 this gets done in the finest style. Fuel consumption for the Volvo S60 D5 AWD and Volvo S60 D5 R-Design AWD sits at a combined figure of 7.1 litres/100 km.

Rigidity in all S60 chassis is first class, and the level of grip is awesome – particularly with the AWD versions. Accurate steering, and premium balance and ride comfort see the Volvo S60 jump through to the top of its class.

As with all Volvo models, the newest S60 model has sensational levels of onboard equipment and comfort. The Volvo S60 comes with eight-way power adjustable heated driver and passenger seats (both with wonderful lumbar support), electric folding rear head restraints, 60/40 split folding rear seats, a premium interior air quality system, a compass built into the rear-view mirror, power windows, electric locks and mirrors, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with audio controls, dual zone electronic climate control with air conditioning, a premium audio system with a choice of a single or 6 disc in-dash CD changer with Dolby Pro-Logic II® Surround Sound. Safety is never compromised in the Volvo S60. The driver and passenger have front, side and side curtain airbags. There are also rear side curtain airbags available and a very effective side impact protection system.
