Audi have been very solicitous and methodical in the way they have gone about creating the finely engineered new Audi A4 Allroad Quattro. Everything about the car is precise and fresh, and the solid feel adds to the quality assurance one gets about the way the car looks and drives. This is the A4 model that is happy on the gravel, back roads, bitumen or light off-roading terrain. You can recognise this by the extra bit of ground clearance cleverly incorporated in the A4 Allroad Quattro’s stance.
As soon as I set eyes on the new Audi A4 Allroad Quattro I could straightaway acknowledge the car’s attractive blend of sport and elegance in its design. So very distinctively Audi, the huge, iconic chrome striped grille is a sure giveaway of this crossover’s lineage. It’s Audi through-and-through: low profile roofline, sweeping outline, elegant detailing and exquisite build quality. You’ve got to love the extravagant use of chrome on the A4 Allroad Quattro exterior, and with big, daring alloys and LED daytime lights, the overall appearance is bold and vibrant.
Slide into the plush leather seats, and the Audi A4 Allroad Quattro experience is one of ample luxury. The dash and switchgear are very workable, while their appearance sets them apart as being about the best there is out there. Audi has an interior design that is almost classical, yet so modern and elegant at the same time. With Audi’s own MMI navigation system, a premium communication system and fabulous top of the range Band & Olufsen audio entertainment any excursion in the Allroad is fun.
One needs to pluck up the courage to take such a nice looking vehicle into a bit of the rough stuff. However, quiet, controlled handling over all road surfaces gives the A4 Allroad Quattro a huge, big tick for the adventure seekers. You’ll find that the wagon practicality, solid build quality and awesome handling and traction capabilities make this the ideal wagon for the person on the lookout for ski slopes or the mountain bike trails. Very much like the Subaru Outback, only much classier, the Allroad will get you to the picnic place out the back and beyond, if you have the heart. A marked 37 mm gain in height over the standard A4 versions, a widened wheel track, underbody protection that has the front and rear with stainless steel plating, 17-inch aluminium wheels in Allroad-specific design, roof rails, and wheel arch and sill extensions set this up nicely for more than just the ordinary.
Impressive power delivery comes on smoothly and strongly when it’s demanded, which is great for when you need to pull out and pass slower traffic or tackle hill climbs. Nimble handling and excellent grip mean that you can get down to business and enjoy the flexible 2.0-litre TDI engine. The A4 Allroad Quattro uses up-to-date, race proven common rail diesel technology. In addition to this, it is equipped with start-stop engine technology as standard. The 2.0 TDI engine tops at 130 kW of power, while you’ll find the grunty 380 Nm of torque a willing companion. And amazingly, the fuel consumption averages out to around 6.0 litres/100km.
Enjoy your drive. With the new Audi A4 Allroad Quattro your high expectations are met.
