Soon to arrive in Australia will be the very accomplished little Audi A3 1.6 TDI. What makes this car so good is the fact that everyday traffic jams to and from work, to and from school, and to and from entertainment functions never got so frugal.
Audi has launched its lowest polluting car ever in the pleasantly designed A3 body shell. The economical new diesel engine is a new common-rail 1.6 TDI engine that only emits 109g/km of carbon dioxide while averaging a mere 4 litres/100 km. The fuel saving comes from Audi’s decision to fit the stop/start feature as a standard technological advancement for the all new Audi A3 1.6 TDI. Audi have also ensured that the 1.6 TDI also benefits from brake energy recovery, which is a regenerative brake mechanism that reduces vehicle speed by converting some of its kinetic energy into a storable form of energy instead of dissipating it as heat as with a conventional brake. The captured energy is stored for future use or fed back into the system. Results from an economy run in Norway returned over 70 mpg. Two 1.6 TDI engines will be offered to provide a 66 kW and a 77 kW model. The massive savings that these engines provide in running costs will leave the last century’s best far behind.
The nice thing about such desirable fuel efficiency is that Audi, for one, never skimp on comfortable cabins that are well put together, stylish and relaxing. The good seating the A3 has, along with quality craftsmanship will mean that the Audi A3 1.6 TDI has what it takes for you to enjoy a long-lasting and satisfying ownership. Inspired by the Audi S3 and TT models, the distinguished interior offers a host of stylish design features, an updated instrument cluster and new trim and materials.
The compact Audi 1.6 TDI is pleasantly roomy, and Audi have made sure there is plenty of open air entering the cabin via an efficient air-conditioning unit. Plenty of glass creates a sunlit cabin that looks classy and sophisticated and offers plenty of excellent head, shoulder and legroom. The clean exterior design always looks good in passing, and the chrome single-frame grille and redesigned headlights make it very distinctively Audi.
Strong body shells have earth the Audi A3 some excellent results in ENCAP safety tests. The restraint system uses single stage tethered airbags and belts fitted with pre-tensioners and load limiters. All rear seats have three-point belts. The centre belt had a safety device so that it would not unreel unless the foldable seat back was correctly latched. The seat-mounted thorax airbag and head curtain airbag are passively engaged unless required. Two-point ISOFIX mountings atre standard for kiddie seats.
Travel just got better. The Audi 1.6 TDI is just round the corner.
