On-demand 4WD gives you the pleasure of great fuel economy and the assurance of extra traction should the way ahead be slippery. Push button lock-up 4×4 mode with 50/50 torque split is set up for tough conditions. Not only is the Ford Escape got plenty of room (class leading), the vehicle’s smooth performance is relaxing. In the engine bay is a carefully designed 2.3-litre inline, four-cylinder DOHC 16V petrol engine. Variable Valve Timing helps to keep the big wagon efficient, and the 109 kW at 6000 rpm provides plenty of power when the situation demands it. A healthy 199 Nm of torque sings at 4000 rpm, ready to pull hard for overtaking and carrying big loads. The Ford Escape comes with a four-speed floor-shift automatic transmission that works well in unison with engine and driver demands.

Newly designed, the Ford Escape has a few more rounded corners and a smoother shape. The Monocoque Body Frame with side intrusion beams and front stabiliser bars adds stregth. You certainly feel well looked after in the new Escape. A commanding view of the road ahead is always welcomed, while a reversing camera makes getting into small parks a piece of cake. ABS, EBD and EBA are standard for the escape, as is driver, front passenger and front seat side head/thorax airbags.

Pleasurable materials and good build quality provides an environment in the new Ford Escape that you’re going to enjoy being in. In fact, the whole family will appreciate the comfortable seating, well-appointed interior and high-tech equipment. A lovely ebony/suede material is used for the seats and interior. Cloth seat inserts look sharp. Remote keyless entry makes boarding the Ford Escape simple, and the SUV comes with an engine immobiliser for combatting light-fingered persons. If you love listening to music, then the 45 Watt four-speaker AM/FM stereo with a 6-disc in-dash CD player should keep your ears happy. MP3 functionality is standard. Climate control air-conditioning, cruise control, powered windows and mirrors, steering wheel mounted audio controls, and Bluetooth connectivity give the Ford Escape a real touch of class.

Room across the rear seat is top class. Rear hip room is one area that the Ford Escape does well (1244 mm). Plenty of hip room is such an important asset for a comfortable journey in the rear seats. Fold the rear seats fully down, and a massive 1792 litres of luggage space becomes available. With the seats up, few other SUVs in the Ford Escape’s class are going to compete with 935 litres.

The new Ford Escape comes with a nice dash design that boasts a speedo display with a black instrument cluster and blue hue lighting. Blue hue lighting also spreads over into the gorgeous centre console. Everything about the new Ford Escape’s interior is Smart and pleasing on the eye.

Built with practicality in mind, there are a number of handy features like cup holders (two in the front and two in the back), a centre console with a 2-tiered storage bin, driver and front passenger sun visors with covered illuminated vanity mirrors, a lockable glove box and deep front door bins. A 12-Volt power outlet in the cargo area means that you can power any extra electrical equipment you care to take for that family get away. A cargo net is also standard and is a very important safety feature.

To drive, the Ford Escape is well trained. The 16-inch rubber does a great job at providing good levels of grip and responsive steering. Body roll is well controlled, while the brakes do a fabulous job at pulling the SUV in from speed.

A heap of accessories for the new Ford Escape, both for the exterior and the interior, are both practical and good looking. A range of alloys are available to choose from, while the exterior colours offer great choice.
