Four models grace the CLS-Class corner of the Mercedes Benz showroom floor. Every one of them is mouth-wateringly nice: the Mercedes Benz CLS 350 BlueEfficiency V6 Petrol (0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds), the Mercedes Benz CLS 350 CDI BlueEfficiency (0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds), the Mercedes Benz CLS 500 BlueEfficiency (0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds) and the Mercedes Benz CLS 63 AMG (0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds).

Updated just recently, the CLS exterior has a more refined look to match the slim and elegant sporty profile. The headlight design has been tweaked. There are beautiful indentation lines in the CLS waistline, and the bonnet appears wider, longer and more aerodynamic. LED indicator strips integrated as standard in the bi-xenon headlamps form a “C” shape, making an unmistakable visual impact – even at night. Like the last model, the roofline slopes away swiftly over the CLS rear haunches to give it one of the most striking designs on the road, today.

Inside the totally voluptuous cabin, there is even individual seats in the rear that are reclining.

All the CLS-Class cars provide effortless performance from what are some of the best engines in the world. In an instant, the engines provide surging power delivery to satisfy the driver’s demands. Equally, they are so refined and smooth that they can be driven along in a docile fashion with ease. The new BlueEfficiency engines have been made using lighter materials. They also boast a new injection design.

The Mercedes-Benz CLS 350 BlueEfficiency starts the ball rolling, and it is well endowed with refined performance. The 3.5-litre V6, petrol motor can whisk the large CLS body from naught to 100 clicks in a mere 6.1 seconds flat. The seven–speed automatic transmission is perfectly smooth and perfectly matched to the engine’s performance. With as much as 370 Nm available between 3500 and 5250 rpm, passing power is ample.

If you like a little extra, then the CLS 500 BlueEfficiency has all you need. Surely, the 300 kW V8 powerhouse will suffice? A maximum torque of 600 Nm from as low as 1600 rpm, make this as silent as a lamb but as ferocious as a wolf. But if you can never get enough, then you’ll probably want the CLS 63 AMG. This is the benchmark that others marques look to, and with 5.5-litres of raw V8 power, it really is little wonder. Tweaked a little the bi-turbo V8 can offer as much as 410 kW and 800 Nm!
